Cornwall MPs claims £37000 in expenses in three months - BBC News

Cornwall's six MPs claimed more than £37,000 in Parliamentary expenses since new rules came in, new figures show.

The claims of £37,283 between 7 May and 31 August have been published by the the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

New South East Cornwall Conservative Sheryll Murray had the highest claims, at £15,755.

The lowest claimant was another new Conservative MP, Camborne and Redruth's George Eustice, who claimed £498.

Elsewhere in the county, Newquay and St Austell Liberal Democrat Stephen Gilbert claimed £7,619; North Cornwall Lib Dem Dan Rogerson claimed £5,195; St Ives Lib Dem Andrew George was paid £4,339 and Truro and Falmouth Conservative Sarah Newton received £3,877.

Ipsa - which runs the new expenses system - published the details of more than 20,000 expenses claims by 576 MPs. About £3.1m was paid out in total.

They were the first claims made and paid under the new independent expenses regime introduced after the General Election, Ipsa said.
