BUTTON CONFIDENT OF CLIPPING VETTEL'S WINGS - Sportinglife.com

Jenson Button is confident Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber will not sprout wings and fly away with tomorrow's European Grand Prix.

Vettel spearheads an all-Red Bull front row after today clinching his seventh pole in eight races this season, and the 22nd of his career.

The reigning world champion is poised to further increase the 60-point lead he currently holds over his pursuers, led by Button.

However, after the fight McLaren have put up against Red Bull in the last three races, Button is convinced Vettel will not have it all his own way.

In starting a disappointing sixth, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton third on the grid, Button said: "I've made it more difficult for myself."

But he then added: "If you look at the last few races in Barcelona, Monaco and Canada, then we can race them.

"This is a place where, if you've a good car with hot temperatures, then it can really make a difference.

"With the DRS zones there is a great opportunity for overtaking, and with this heat then also strategy will come into it because we're pretty good at making the right call.

"So I don't think they are going to fly away tomorrow. We're not afraid of that. I think it's going to be a great race."

Button, though, is appreciative of the fact something has to happen soon if Vettel's assault on back-to-back titles is to be halted.

Five victories and two second places from the seven races so far have left Vettel 14 points shy of a maximum haul, a phenomenal achievement.

As someone who had a runaway start to his title-winning season in 2009, Button knows what is required.

"It's extremely difficult when somebody has a 60-point lead, they have the fastest car and they're not making mistakes," added Button.

"It's tough, but we aren't going to give up, and we're not going to be the only team fighting with them either. I think Ferrari will.

"It's good to see Mark (Webber) is also competitive and hopefully he can start taking some points off of his team-mate.

"But we need to start finishing in front of Sebastian pretty much every race we go into.

"When you're in the lead there is a lot less action - you can pick your pit stops, pick your strategy, and you don't get involved in incidents. His consistency has been unbelievable.

"Unless we start fighting them in the races then it is going to continue.

"Qualifying is an area where he is strong, he has led into the first corner of most races, and that is what we have to try and change.

"Yes, we're in a good position, but we need more in qualifying at the moment."
