Kym Marsh being kissed by Jamie Lomas
IN their three years together, Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas have faced more drama and heartache than many couples do in a lifetime.
A whirlwind romance with Jamie, soon after Kym had separated from her husband, EastEnders idol Jack Ryder, led to a shock pregnancy just a month after the couple moved in together.
Tragically, son Archie was stillborn. And the grief began to tear Kym, 35, and Jamie, 31, apart.
Then a routine smear test found pre-cancerous cells on her cervix.
"I felt sick just hearing the word 'cancer'," says Kym in her frank new autobiography, From The Heart.
"My gynaecologist said something abnormal had come up on my smear. I thought, 'Oh no... Not more bad news?'
"It was just after Jade Goody had passed away. She had been so brave in talking about it and I really think she saved a lot of women by raising awareness."
Kym, who has a son David, 16, and a daughter Emily, 13, from a previous relationship, adds: "My gynaecologist was doing everything he could to reassure me, but I still felt scared.

"Yet after losing Archie and the weeks of not being able to see any point in life, I suddenly realised how much I wanted to be around and just how much David and Emily relied on me.
"I had the biopsy, then Jamie and I went away for a few days, trying to get things back on track. It wasn't easy. We were still grieving, but alone, each in our different way.
"When we got back the results of the biopsy showed the cells were pre-cancerous and I'd have to have them removed.
"It was actually a fairly straightforward procedure, but it gave me a horrible shock coming so soon after Archie's death."
A few months after her baby tragedy, Kym booked in for a boob job and liposuction.
"I really wanted to boost my self-confidence," she explains.
"It might have seemed like a weird time but I'd been thinking about having it done for years and had actually planned the operation before I got pregnant. I wanted a boob job because I had lost what breasts I had from breast-feeding David and Emily. They were very flat and small.
"I also had a belly that no matter how hard I exercised wouldn't go away.
"The boob op wasn't too bad, but the recovery was agony. My boobs were enormous and strangely shaped like Madonna's bra in the Vogue video.
"I had the boob job and went back to work. On the surface it probably seemed I was coping all right, but inside I was lost. Things weren't good between Jamie and I. Like many men, he bottled up his feelings and he didn't want to speak about what had happened.

"I was really angry at Jamie because I felt he was getting on with his life while I was still grieving."
By September 2009, things had deteriorated. Jamie moved out and Kym asked Corrie's press office to put out a statement saying they had split up.
She says: "At the time I soon regretted it, but in hindsight I'm glad that I did it because it forced the issue and it meant we sorted everything out.
"I went to see Jamie at his mum's house. We spoke for hours and tried to put everything right.
"That night we agreed to get back together and said we'd take it slowly. We rented separate places, but Jamie ended up staying over at mine all the time and, a few months later, we were engaged.
"Nothing ever goes slowly in mine and Jamie's relationship!"
It was shortly after her split with Jack that she first met the Hollyoaks star at the Soap Awards in May 2008.
"I wasn't looking for another relationship and definitely not with another actor," says Kym.
"But Jamie had such a cheeky personality. The fact that he could make me laugh was irresistible."
After three months, he moved into Kym's house and in August 2008 she was pregnant.
Although grief at losing Archie initially drove them apart, they now believe it has brought them even closer together.
They had been reunited for a month when Jamie proposed over Christmas 2009.
Kym recalls: "I was so over the moon I didn't hesitate. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him." Nine months later she was expecting again and despite a difficult pregnancy, daughter Polly arrived safely, if early, into the world.
"It was one of the happiest days of our lives," says Kym. "It has cemented our relationship. We have been through so much and we are still together that says something about us. People keep asking when we're getting married.
"We've been through a lot and, although we are fully committed to one another, there's no real rush.
"I always wanted the fairytale but having been divorced I realise it doesn't always happen. When Jamie and I get married it will be it for life.
"Liz Taylor, I am not... and I wouldn't be with Jamie if I thought it wasn't going to work out. I love him to bits and want to be with him for ever.
"There is no perfect relationship I don't believe anyone has a relationship where they don't argue. Jamie and I have a very explosive relationship.
"One minute we'll be shouting at each other and the next thing we love each other.
"We are both very fiery and say what we think and then it all gets forgotten about. We are not sulky people and we don't hold grudges.
"No relationship is all hearts and flowers, but we are very much a team. I think that was the downfall in my relationship with Jack.
"We were working on our own for different things. You have to be on the same side, you have to take the rough with the smooth."
Kym plans to return to Coronation Street, as feisty single mum Michelle Connor, in September.
She says: "It will be hard leaving Polly, who will only be six months old, but she will have a nanny and I know Jamie will do all he can to help out. I have been away for nearly a year so it will be great to get my teeth into a new storyline.
"I've really missed everybody. I am very close to Alison King, Antony Cotton, Charlie Condou and Michelle Keegan, who were brilliant when I lost Archie and had all the problems with Polly.
"Beverly Callard has been brilliant, too, and came to see me in hospital and at home as have Antony and Charlie.
AMAZING
"And Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley, has been amazing over Polly. She was texting me every day, asking how I am. She has been unbelievable. What's happened has actually made me closer to other cast mates as well.
"Corrie have been there for me and have supported my every move. They've bent over backwards for me.
"I have been discussing Michelle with the producer and I don't even think they know how she is going to come back yet.Maybe we could add another personality trait and make her a bit more bitchy.
"She might get a new fella. I don't like Michelle to stay with one person for too long I like her more when she is moving from one person to the next."
