A WARNING was issued last night against eating raw sprouted seeds after a British supplier was linked to a killer bug outbreak.

At least 10 people were struck down with E.coli in France after eating rocket and mustard sprouts.

Health officials said two had the same strain of the bug that recently killed 44.

The UK Food Standards Agency advised not to eat any raw sprouted seeds, such as alfalfa, beansprouts and fenugreek. They are safe if cooked until steaming hot throughout.

Seed supplier Thompson & Morgan, based in Ipswich, is being probed over the outbreak. A spokeswoman said it had sold "hundreds of thousands of packets."

She said: "The problem is perhaps in how the seeds were handled or grown."
