A TOP doctor hounded out of her job has won 4.5MILLION from hospital chiefs already in deep financial trouble.
Dr Eva Michalak, 53, was the victim of a campaign of lies after she got pregnant.
An "outraged" tribunal panel ordered the mammoth compensation after hearing how the former 90,000-a-year consultant physician is unlikely to work again because of her ordeal.
The award will plunge Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust deeper into financial crisis. It already needs to make 31million efficiency savings. Dr Michalak endured five years of harassment at Pontefract General Hospital after giving birth in 2003.
Senior colleagues concocted lies about her bullying junior doctors and rowing with staff. She was suspended and finally dismissed.
The panel at Leeds, West Yorks, said: "We are positively outraged at the way this employer has behaved."
Dr Michalak was awarded 1.1million for loss of earnings and 660,000 for loss of pension. The trust must pay damages and sums for injury to feelings and medical costs.
Dr Michalak, who lives with her husband and son, eight, in Leeds, said: "They destroyed my life, my health and my career." The trust will "carefully consider" the ruling.
