Prince Harry sped to help a pal after he heard him being mugged as they chatted on the phone.

The prince, 27, quickly drove to the spot where Thomas van Straubenzee was attacked and searched for him until "intuition" took him to the local police station.

Harry, just back from US helicopter training, found his friend from prep school there, and gave police a statement.

Mr van Straubenzee's BlackBerry phone was taken in the attack in Battersea, South West London.

A man was arrested and the phone was recovered.

A police spokesman said: "Police are investigating an allegation of personal robbery which occurred at approximately 20.30hrs on Wednesday, 30 November in Albert Bridge Road, SW11. A mobile phone was taken.

"A man was arrested on Thursday, 1 December on suspicion of robbery and bailed to return in January.

A Clarence House spokesman said: "Prince Harry joined a friend at a police station in South London after his friend had reported a robbery."
