Matt Lucas quits Twitter after someone mocks his dead ex - Mirror.co.uk

If you're going to make a really bad taste joke that concerns one of the country's best loved comedians it's probably a good idea not to do it on one of the world's most popular social networking sites.

Yesterday a 16-year-old who wrote under the username 'oOfuscoOo' tweeted a horrible joke about the suicide of Matt Lucas' ex-husband, Kevin McGee.

Matt responded by first replying, "Shame on you," before writing, "I'm not joking. I think you should delete that tweet. It really upset me."

He then went on to write, "I'm disappointed that oOfuscoOo thinks jokes about the suicide of my former partner are funny."

A barrage of support for Matt and condemnation of the horrible tweet followed, but Matt quickly posted a general message confirming he was going to close his account: "I appreciate all the support on here over the past couple of years but it's time to shut down my Twitter account. Xx"

Since he posted this last night there has been no action on his account, whereas oOfuscoOo has shut his down completely.

The user 'no longer exists'. Before that though he did tweet an apology to the star, saying "I never actually sent this to you. I only put it up as a joke for my friends to see. Sorry Matt."

Matt has over 566,000 followers on the micro-blogging site all of who are pretty furious about his departure.

Presenter Richard Madeley tweeted, "If you get abusive tweets, you know the sender is inadequate, sexually incompetent and has a jealousy complex. Tweet them that and then block 'em."

Lucas and McGee were together for six years, entering a civil partnership in 2006 before splitting in 2008.

McGee was found hanged in his flat in Edinburgh 10 months after the break-up leaving Lucas devastated.
