Pearce assesses Capello reign - SkySports

Pearce takes charge of the England team as caretaker manager for next week's friendly against Holland at Wembley after Capello's exit earlier this month.

And the England Under 21 boss is grateful for the experience he gained from working with the Italian within the England set-up.

Pearce said: "I was invited in as an Under 21 coach. The FA thought it would pay dividends, maybe on days like today, when I am asked to take over the reins.

"I don't find it daunting in any way. It is an absolute pleasure.

"Fabio has involved me in every step of the way. His staff have been fantastic."

Although Pearce is keen to talk up Capello's record as England manager, the former left-back acknowledges that nobody came out of events in South Africa in 2010 with much credit.

"Fabio's success rate is comparable to any England manager we have ever had," he added.

"But we also know there was a stain on our characters as a whole, coaches and players, in South Africa."
