(Jason Merritt - GETTY IMAGES) After starting a minor controversy this week, Sacha Baron Cohen arrived on the Oscars red carpet Sunday dressed as Adm. General Aladeen, his character from "The Dictator." He quickly caused an even bigger stir.
In a white military uniform with gold epaulets, Baron Cohen walked the carpet with two female guards carrying "the ashes" of deceased North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in an urn.
Speaking with E!'s Ryan Seacrest, Baron Cohen said he was wearing John Galliano "but the socks are from K-Mart."
The actor explained that he was carrying the urn because it was Kim Jong Il's "dream" to come to the Oscars. He then dumped the container's powder on Seacrest. (See a .gif of the moment here and video below.) Baron Cohen was then escorted off the red carpet.
"Part of me thought he would be up to something," a clearly peeved Seacrest said.
After the "Hugo" actor's intention to come dressed as the Republic of Wadiya's fictitious leader became public this week, Deadline reported that his tickets to the Oscars had been pulled. An Academy spokesperson then told the Hollywood Reporter that Baron Cohen was welcome to walk the red carpet as himself.

Baron Cohen, in character, appeared on the "Today" show to threaten "unimaginable consequences" if his tickets weren't given back. Oscars producer Brian Grazer put an end to the hubbub, telling "Extra" Friday that Baron Cohen was welcome to come dressed as General Aladeen.

My guess about the Sacha Baron Cohen thing: He wanted to do that to someone during the show; they compromised that he could hit Seacrest.
