Mixed reviews but good sales for Rowling's The Casual Vacancy - Times Online

J. K. Rowling's first adult novel, published five years after the phenomenal success of her Harry Potter series, was greeted with mixed reviews today — but that did not deter her fans buying the book in droves.

Set in the modern day, but written in the style of a 19th century comedy of manners, The Casual Vacancy is about a West Country village called Pagford where the sudden death of a councillor exposes class divisions in the community.
