Woman charged with murder of 13-year-old in Doncaster - Telegraph.co.uk

Today, a white forensic police tent could be seen in the park - just a few metres from a play area.

Locals spoke of their shock on hearing about the incident. One woman said she no longer allowed her 13-year-old daughter to use the park.

She said: "It is not a very good park. There have been a number of incidents in there, it is not like when I was a child."

A local shopkeeper, who gave his name as Raja, added: "It is such a shock. It is really sad. You see kids playing football in the park. It is the first time we have had a stabbing around here.

"They should put CCTV cameras in the park. A few customers have been saying that."

Friends have taken to social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to pay tribute to the teenager.

Leaving her tribute on Facebook, Leah Jones said: "No one deserves to die young! rip casey! your death has effected so many people and im sure you will never be forgotten. sleep tight princes."

While Ciara Batty said: "R.I.P Casey, i didnt know you that well, but i knew you enough to know that you didnt deserve to die! you were a lovely girl, never forgotten"

One friend tweeted today: "rip casey kearney, 13 year old girl who got stabbed yesterday."

Another school friend said: "Rip casey, 13 year old girl from my school who got stabbed yesterday. You will be missed. :("

While another school friend added: "RIP Casey, you were in my media and were such a lovely girl. It's sick that someone would murder a 13 year old."

Casey was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: "The 13-year-old girl subject to a serious assault in the Elmfield Park area of Doncaster has died.

"Police are now treating this as a murder investigation and a 26-year-old woman earlier arrested on suspicion of serious assault in connection with incident remains in police custody.

"We are not yet in a position to name the 13-year-old girl. A post mortem will be held in due course."

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We were called around 1.15pm yesterday to Elmfield Park.

"We sent one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles to the scene and a female patient was treated and taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for further care."
