Kindred had won her heat with a Paralympic record but was quick to dampen expectations and so it proved as she was unable to turn her status as fastest-qualifier into fastest-finalist.
Her time of 1min 26.23sec means she leaves the aquatics centre with a medal from her only event of the Games and the rest of her stint in the athletes' village will be spent as cheerleader-in-chief alongside daughter Ella for her husband and fellow Paralympic swimmer Sascha, who is going for four medals.
"I'm extremely happy," she said. "I've got a personal best and a silver medal, so I can't ask for much more than that."
