Skyfall is to be shown almost 100 times this weekend at some UK cinemas - Telegraph.co.uk

The last James Bond film was Quantam of Solace, which broke UK box office records for the largest Friday opening – grossing £4.9 million – and biggest opening weekend (£15.5 million) when it was released in 2008.

Quantam of Solace went on to gross £367.4 million worldwide, slightly less than its predecessor, 2006's Casino Royale, which grossed £372.5 million, making it the highest grossing film in the Bond franchise.

Skyfall is widely expected to top both. Earlier this month, experts predicted it could rival the success of Christopher Nolan's two Dark Knight films, both of which earned more than $1 billion (£622m) at the box office.
