Who are the three Falkland Islanders who voted to join Argentina? - Telegraph.co.uk (blog)

Falklanders celebrating: only three people voted against the referendum

The results are in from Port Stanley Central. Turnout was above 90 per cent, and with 1517 votes cast only three people voted for dumping Britain. The Argentine campaign will have to go back to the drawing board. There was clearly something very badly wrong with their manifesto. They made almost no inroads into the crucial swing voters.

But I am fascinated by the three rebels. One can imagine them – the Islands' radicals – sitting in the corner of the pub in Port Stanley, trying to have a campaign meeting, while the barman and the regulars stare at them menacingly. On the jukebox it is 1982, and records by Shakin' Stevens, Bonnie Tyler and Duran Duran are playing.

In fairness, it seems that the three were not voting to join Argentina. They simply do not want the Falklands to remain a British protectorate. Goodness, it's not as though the Argentinians are ever going to invade or anything. Instead the rebels want a kind of independence, a little like Alex Salmond. Now, can whoever was in charge of winning the pro-British campaign in the Falklands be signed up by the Save the Union campaign in Scotland?
