British man in court over girl found dead at grandmother's house in south London - Vancouver Sun

LONDON - The man accused of murdering a schoolgirl whose disappearance made headlines across Britain has been jailed following a brief court appearance.

The search for 12-year-old Tia Sharp drew concern across the U.K. and the discovery of her corpse at her grandmother Christine Sharp's house on Friday was met by horror and disbelief — in part because police had already searched the premises three times.

Christine Sharp's partner Stuart Hazell sounded emotional in court Monday as he was asked to identify himself. The 37-year-old's voice cracked when asked to confirm his address, in the New Addington area of south London where Tia was found dead.

Hazell was speaking from a police station via video link to the capital's Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court. He did not enter a plea.
