F1 test driver de Villota seriously hurt in crash - Kansas City Star

Marussia Formula One team test driver Maria de Villota was hospitalized after sustaining multiple injuries from a crash during testing on Tuesday at Duxford Airfield in England.

According to a news release from Marussia, de Villota's accident happened at the end of her first installation run and involved an impact with the team's support truck.

The 32-year-old Spanish driver reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash, but the team noted in its release that she is "conscious and medical assessments are ongoing." She was transported by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

De Villota, who is the daughter of former Formula One driver and British Formula One Series champion Emilio de Villota, joined Marussia as a test driver earlier this year.

Formula One is in Silverstone, England this weekend for the British Grand Prix.
