Katie Holmes Dines With Suri While Filming In Kent - Hartford Courant

Katie Holmes and William Hurt are filming a movie in Kent, and have rented houses nearby, the town's first selectman says.

The film is officially being called "Untitled Christian Camargo Project," after the first-time director, best known as one of the stars of the TV show "Dexter." The movie is said to be a modern-day retelling of the classic Anton Chekhov tale "The Seagull." The plot is described on imdb.com as "Reckless desire wreaks havoc over Memorial Day weekend as a family confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love."

The movie's page on the Internet Movie Database also lists Jean Reno, Michael Nyqvist, Allison Janney and Cherry Jones as stars. According to an article in Daily Variety, "Janney will play Elizabeth, a movie star based on the role of Irina Arkadina in 'The Seagull.' Hurt will play her ailing brother, while Holmes will play the temperamental daughter of the estate's caretaker."

First Selectman Bruce Adams said "we're pleased to have the business in town," even though he's "not a big movie buff" and is unfamiliar with most of the actors.

"I know who Katie Holmes is mainly because of her being married to Tom Cruise. I have heard of William Hurt and probably could name a movie he was in. The rest, I've never heard of," he said.

He said Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise, ate dinner at a local restaurant, Doc's Trattoria and Brick Oven Pizza, this week and sat at an adjacent table to his daughter. "That's how I knew she was in town. I woudn't have recognized her myself," he said.

Laurie Lowell, a bookkeeper at Doc's, said that Holmes and Hurt have dined at Doc's frequently since filming began. "William Hurt actually put his hands together in prayer and bowed down to Roberto [Pizzo, the co-owner and chef] and said 'phenomenal, phenomenal.' It's been very exciting."

Roxanne Pavia of the Millstone Bakery said Holmes visited the bakery with Suri. "She had a baseball cap on," Pavia said. "We didn't talk to her, but she was very friendly, please and thank you, and then she was gone."

Sharon Cipolla, president of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, said "I heard rumors that she ate at Annie Bananie, which is an ice cream shop inside Backcountry Outfitters, but as for myself, I haven't seen her or anyone else."Adams said all the actors are being housed in "large residences around Lake Waramaug," which straddles the border between Kent and Washington, and the crew is staying in hotel rooms in New Milford and Brookfield.

Adams said that the pre-production crew, based in an office on the town green across the street from Kent True Value Hardware, has been in town for months, and shooting began "a couple of weeks ago."

Despite the lack of an official title, online resumes of Juliet Rylance, who is a cast member, the film's co-producer and Camargo's wife, lists the name of Camargo's movie as "For Viola and Piano." Also, the Connecticut state government website that lists movies shooting in Connecticut cites the production email as "forviolaandpiano@gmail.com."
