Frustration and rebellion: Like the French, we are faced with tough choices about our political leadership

Like France, we face a similar situation today at the local polls: frustration and rebellion.

While voters seethe at David Cameron, French voters are contemplating the political guillotine for Nicholas Sarkozy and his celebrity wife.

But in his place, the prospect of something far worse… Francois Hollande.

Of course, the UK is no stranger to chopping and changing in politics. The last three hundred years has been torn between left and right, with voters never really knowing just who they want in power. But it is time we settled… and gave our incumbents a real chance at holding the fort.

We gave Labour over ten years to try - and fail - to deliver, yet we are seemingly unable to do the same for a party that has frankly been out of practice for a while, its new leadership lacking experience of power after the long years in the wilderness.

When the Conservatives flopped over the finish line with helping hand from the Lib Dems, no one had thought of them as favourites for the role. Resentment and anger with the incompetent incumbents definitely helped the Conservative cause, but in spite of it all, there was a real hope that things would be different.

Of course, there have been plenty of things that would have voters running back into the arms of their spurned former lovers, Labour: NHS reforms, BSkyB, bail-out backtracking… the list goes on. But to go back now, just as the Tories are dusting off their cobwebs, would be a mistake.

Fairness: We gave Labour over ten years to try to deliver, and we should do at least the same with the Conservatives

Fairness: We gave Labour over ten years to try to deliver, and we should do at least the same with the Conservatives

We gave Labour ten years, it's only fair that we should give the Conservatives a while longer. Returning to Labour is not the answer. They say a week is a long time in politics… no wonder people easily forget the errors of our parties past.

Too often people look back through rose-tinted spectacles at the past. Many voters may now look back fondly at Blair and Brown's tenure, forgetting the chaos, scandal and misery caused by their years living at No10.

There are Conservatives reps  (Councillors, grassroot supporters, Assembly Members) across the country, standing up for your rights and for you and should not be marred by the like of DC and Gideon. Why should we deny them a vote when many of us will have felt the differences their work has made to our lives? Do not punish those at the bottom for the mistakes of those at the top.

Backing Boris: We should give Mr Johnson a final chance

Backing Boris: We should give Mr Johnson a final chance

In the same way, simply voting for a party for the past is three steps back. Would you take back an ex or go back to your old workplace? Why would you then give Labour another chance?

Sure, the Conservatives have made several errors (frankly deserving a sacking or two) – and I have been more than vocal in my criticisms over the last couple of years – but musical chairs isn't the answer.

As reports say, our economy is set to get back on track in the summer.  Just think how much more can be achieved if we allow the party to grow and prosper in the environment of power.

That is why I say today forgive and forget and give the Conservatives another chance today, by giving Boris another term in the London Mayoral election, and by crossing the X next to your local Tory representatives.

I am not a Conservative puppet – I know full well the events of the last few years – but I am willing to take a gamble and give them more time and keep patient.

David Cameron, Boris, don't mess up your final chance. Next time, the electorate won't be so forgiving.

Cameron and co are idiots with rich parents, they have not shown an ounce of intelligence in running this country. Plus it hard to believe what comes out of their mouths, they been caught lying or not knowing the facts so many times in the past couple of years that I have lost count. They also lied during the election. I am not clean on Labour either but perhaps delivering a defeat to the conservatives will wake David Cameron up and make him relies that he need to make major changes to the cabinet, bringing in a few people who done a days work in their lives and know how to take come accountability for their actions would be a start. plus some people with some management skills would be good. But I believe only a substantial defeat at local elections will wake Cameron up.

"We gave Labour ten years, its only fair that we should give the Conservatives a while longer...." - what a brilliant argument. This woman is clearly one of the leading political thinkers of her generation.

You have had your chance to show you were different from the last lot ,now on the electorate will have theirs. I'm voting UKIP !.

Endangered species Tripe!

Lets change the political system The electorate should be allowed to choose the national priorities. The politicians should be required to implement the priorities.

If we had a proper Conservative government with a proper Conservative agenda - e.g. cutting red tape, slashing the size of the state, supporting traditional marriage, leaving the EU, replacing the equality/political correctness agenda with freedom of speech, this article would never need to have been written, as no sane person would ever want to go back to the dark ages of Bliar and Brown. The problem is not the party - it is the party's appalling leaders.

Compared to Cameron, Brown and Blair or any one come to that have more sense than the clown we now have!!!

You can waste your vote if you want to. I would never vote for the three biggest parties they have only contempt for the electorate. I would rather people voted for anyone but the three main parties. Ukip for me from now on.

yes, the conservatives should be shot.

This was a party political broadcast from Francesca Preece on behalf of the Conservative Party. Now it's time for Eastenders! A very poor piece Ms Preece. Low on facts and wafer thin in research. Truth is why give the tories more time if they don't know what they are doing? The problem is we aren't ping ponging from left wing governments to right wing. If only that was true. Instead we have the main parties being almost indistinguishable to each other. All run by the same sort of public school boys who have come through the party think tanks and internships to become identikit politicians. What people want is a real alternative to these out of touch parties, and a party that really understands ordinary peoples concerns. I'm afraid Ms Preece your beloved Conservative party like the Libs and Labs don't do that.
