New proposals on the table in Iran nuclear talks - euronews

Iran has offered a counterproposal in nuclear talks with world leaders in Baghdad.

Western powers want to curb Iran's ability to enrich uranium above 20 per cent as this could give them weapons-grade atomic material.

Iran, the EU and China say they are willing to continue considering all constructive proposals. Spokesman for the EU's foreign policy chief, Michael Mann explained the state of play:

"We put a new offer on the table which addresses our main concerns to do with the Iranian nuclear programme, not least the 20 per cent enrichment question. We hope the Iranians will come back with a positive reaction to our proposals to deal with the concerns of the international community and to meet their international obligations under Security Council resolutions and the IAEA's findings."

Israel has warned the West that it should not offer concessions to Iran. They reiterated that military options should not be ruled out.

Talks are set to continue today which is perceived as positive, especially after news that the UN nuclear watchdog is close to a deal on inspections of nuclear sites.
