Stone Roses play surprise gig in UK - RTE.ie

The hour-long, 11-song set began with I Wanna Be Adored and also included favourites from their landmark 1989 debut album, including Made of Stone, Waterfall and She Bangs The Drums. But they did not unveil any new material, there was no encore, and they didn't play their traditional set closer, I am The Resurrection.

It was the first time Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren had played live together since 1990. At the end of the set all four members of the band hugged each other reports NME.com.

Oasis star Liam Gallagher was there and he took his seat on the balcony to a crowd chant of "Liam!" Audience members had varying opinions on the quality of Ian Brown's vocals and the singer is reported to have been unimpressed by fans filming and tweeting through the gig, rather than "living in the moment".

The surprise show had been announced last minute, just hours before stage time, via the band's official site. The Stone Roses play The Phoenix Park, Dublin on July 5.
